How to set up authenticity checks on multi-survey flows in Qualtrics

A multi-survey flow redirects participants from one survey straight into the next, carrying their participant IDs with them each time. You don't need to enter anything manually, and no participant or data gets lost along the way.

This works for any number of surveys in the chain: two, three, or more. Repeat the redirect step below between each pair of surveys.

Step 1: Add embedded data to your first survey

  1. Open the first survey in Qualtrics and go to Survey flow.

  2. Add a new Embedded Data element and place it above your question block.

  3. Add four fields: STUDY_ID, PROLIFIC_PID, SESSION_ID, and MULTI_SESSION.

  4. Leave each value set to "set from panel or URL." Qualtrics fills these in automatically when a participant arrives from Prolific.

Step 2: Redirect participants to the next survey

Repeat this step at the end of every survey in your chain except the last.

  1. In Survey flow, add an End of Survey element.

  2. Select "Redirect to a URL" and paste the link to the next survey.

  3. Add these parameters to the end of that URL:

?STUDY_ID=${e://Field/STUDY_ID}&PROLIFIC_PID=${e://Field/PROLIFIC_PID}&SESSION_ID=${e://Field/SESSION_ID}&MULTI_SESSION=${e://Field/MULTI_SESSION}

These parameters pull the values from the current survey and forward them into the next one, so every participant's IDs carry across automatically.

  1. Save your changes and apply the survey flow.

  2. If you have more surveys after this one, add the same four embedded data fields to the next survey, then repeat this step until you reach the last survey in the chain.

Step 3: Add the authenticity check script

  1. In Prolific, go to your study's data collection settings and find the Authenticity check section.

  2. Copy the script provided.

  3. In Qualtrics, go to Look and feel > General > Header and paste the script in.

  4. Repeat this for every survey in the chain.

Step 4: Turn on multi-survey flow in Prolific

  1. On the data collection page for your study, find the Multi-survey flow toggle under Authenticity checks.

  2. Turn it on. This tells Prolific that participants will move across more than one Qualtrics survey as part of the same study.

  3. Publish each survey in the chain, in order, starting with the first.
