Yes, you can publish and run multiple studies at the same time on Prolific.
Whether participants can take part in more than one study depends on how you set up your studies.
How to prevent participants from taking part in multiple studies
If you do not want participants to take part in more than one study, you will need to set this up when creating each study.
You can do this in a few ways:
Exclude participants from previous studies prescreener
Best for preventing overlap across a small number of studies
Best if you want to manually control who can take part, such as assigning participants to different study versions or inviting the same cohort back
Best if you want to systematically divide participants into groups based on screening criteria, especially across multiple related studies
Exclude participants from a previous study
Publish your first study.
When setting up your next study, select Exclude participants from previous studies.
Choose the relevant study from the list.
Repeat this for any additional studies where you want to prevent participant overlap.
When you may not need exclusion tools
If your studies have non-overlapping eligibility criteria, participants will only see the study they qualify for.
For example:
One study is limited to UK residents
Another study is limited to US residents
However, confirm that your criteria do not overlap. If participants qualify for more than one study, they may be able to take part in multiple studies unless you use exclusion tools.
If you are unsure, use the Exclude participants from previous studies prescreener to prevent duplicate participation.
Recruiting additional participants
If you need more participants for the same study design, increase the number of available places.
If your studies differ, such as having different eligibility criteria, create a separate study.
Running time-sensitive studies
If your study requires participants to be assigned to conditions at the same time:
Run a single study on Prolific
Assign participants to conditions in your external survey tool
Publishing multiple studies at the same time does not guarantee participants will start at the same time.
For more guidance, see our article on time-sensitive studies.
Re-invite or target specific participants
If you want only specific participants (for example, from a previous study) to take part in a new study, use Participant groups.
For more information, see our Participant groups guide.
Using external survey tools
If you are running multiple studies with an external survey platform:
Make sure each study uses the correct completion code
Record Prolific IDs to track participation across studies
