Account approval and verification

This article outlines how to get your Prolific researcher account approved and verified, including the requirements needed before you can start funding and running studies.

Updated this week

Account approval

If possible, sign up with your institutional email address. If your institution has used Prolific before, your account should be approved automatically. If your institution is new to Prolific, we’ll review your account as soon as possible.

If you sign up with a non-institutional email address (for example, @gmail.com), your account will need to be approved manually. To help us review your account, please contact our Support Team and share:

  • Your institution (if applicable)

  • The types of studies you want to run

  • The aim of your research

We’ll then get back to you to help you get set up on Prolific and start collecting data.

Verifying your email address

You’ll also need to complete this before you can add money to your Workspace balance and publish your first study.

To verify your email address, go to your account settings and open the ‘General’ tab. You can get there by clicking your initials in the top-right corner of the screen. If your email address is already verified, you’ll see the following:

If your email address is not verified yet, you will see an option to select Verify email. Select this, then follow the steps in the email we send you.

Once you have completed both steps, account approval and email verification, you will be able to add money to your Workspace balance and publish your first study.
